The Esama of Benin Kingdom, Chief Osawaru Igbinedion and the Ohanmu family of Benin are currently in a dispute over the ownership of a property along Sapele road in Benin City, a building just opposite Kada Cinemas. According to reports, the Esama
claimed to have purchased the said property from an auction by the African Continental Bank, a statement that the Ohanmu family have denied, since they contacted the bank in question and they
denied ever having such an auction take place. Although the Ohanmu family said that the house was used to take a loan from the bank by their late father who was a friend to the Esama, the bank
however has not taken any action on the property. Demolition of the building have already commenced even with occupants still residing in it. This is not the first time the Esama, Chief Igbinedion will be in such a controversy over landed property.
