THE RISE OF AFRO BEATS

Afro Beats, the music genre putting Nigeria on the map. It has birthed other genres known as Afro Fusion, Afro Pop, Afro Electric and so own. According to Nigerian music superstar Davido, once it has an element of African in it, then the Afro gets appended to it. Many argue that it originated from Afro Beat, a genre created by Fela, and some others say it originally started out in Ghana. But what ever the case is, Afro Beats is now recognised by the world and a lot of big African stars especially Nigerians are taking it to the global stage, selling out shows abroad and getting invitations to perform at the biggest shows.

We owe it to the new kids on the block talking about the Wizkids, the Davidos, the Burna Boys who have made this feat possible. The world is interested in their sounds and right now we have these three young men selling out shows home and abroad, going for interviews and getting larger fan bases across the world. Recently Wizkid performed along side Drake as a special guest on his tour at O2 arena, a stage he previously sold out last year, Davido on the other hand has also sold out the O2 arena, one of the biggest stages to perform in the world and also was a guest artiste at J.Coles show. Davido's song Fall has being getting massive airplay in America and it currently tops the charts in the states at number 13. 

Burna Boy on the other hand recently sold out The Apollo stage in New York where he gave an electric performance. He is currently in a relationship with London Dance hall artiste Stefflondon. The self acclaimed African Giant has been to interviews abroad and his music is really getting appreciated. These three men and a lot of others have contributed to the Rise of Afrobeats, and it is exciting to know what the future holds.
