The Oyo state government has announced that they will start testing breaths of drivers for any sign of consumption of alcohol. This message was passed by the Executive Chairman, Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority, Dr Akin Fagbemi, who said these on Saturday.
He further went on to warn alcoholic beverage vendors to desist from selling their products around parks and to drivers and also urges drivers to drink when they do not intend to drive, or avoid drinking if they are driving.
“I want to use this opportunity again to advise those operating drinking joints to maintain decorum. Those who think they must drink should not drive. If they must drive, they shouldn’t drink. We have impounded more than five vehicles. “Several accidents are as a result of drunk-driving.
Drunk drivers constitute harm to themselves as well as other road users. Some street lights and other public infrastructures have been destroyed through road accidents. Motorists should know that life is sacred. We want everybody to celebrate the season in peace.”
