ATM THIEF ARRESTED AT UNION BANK WHILE TRYING TO DEFRAUD A VICTIM


A man by the name Abdullahi Buhari, 27, has been on 14th of January, 2018 arrested by operatives from state Intelligence Bureau (SIB) while he was trying to defraud one of his victims Dauda 


Habila, 36, at a Union bank ATM point. According to the police, the suspect was trying to defraud his victim by faking to assist him withdraw money from his ATM. According to police, the suspect 

alongside his accomplice, one Umar now at large, specialized in tricking bank customers while trying to withdraw money from ATM by pretending to assist them on how to make the withdrawal 

effectively. They would later swap the card of the owner with a random card that they possess of the same bank as the owner after they must have memorized the PIN of their victim and afterwards 

clean out the victims bank account with his card. The command stressed that the suspect would soon be charged to court after completion of investigation. However, exhibits recovered from the 

suspect included twenty (20) pieces of ATM cards of different banks, two (2) National Identity Card belonging to one Bashir Bala and two (2) MTN SIM certificates. The police advised the general 

public especially bank customers not to trust any unknown person offering assistance at ATM points. The police maintained that if customers find themselves in a situation whereby they need 

assistance while operating the machine, it is better they call the attention of any staff member of the bank or better still come to the point with a trusted family member or friend.
